I will probably be dropping off this forum all together. We are now poised to take in the sick stepson for long term care. He has no job or insurance. His wife has no job or insurance. The only thing I can give up to help with money is cigars and the 2 bottles of scotch I buy every year, and no more beer. On top of everything the kitchen plumbing just blew up. Fxuxck the world.

Make some calls, there may be some services you can take advantage of for his healthcare and your family. That is what these services are for, use them. Friends, family, clergymen, talk to them too. You can't do it alone, no one can. You take care of yourself

Don't give up, then they win.

If he survives the operation and the infection he is in for a 2 to 6 week hospital stay. Years ago we got a good hospital bed, planning ahead. But his Grand Mother is using it and our source is no longer around. We have no idea what to do and it is really wearing my wife down. Neither one of us is getting much sleep, I have to drug myself in order to get any at all. His wife seems to be bored and bothered by the situation and asking her to check about any assistance is a waste of time and will fall on us. His brother is more interested in partying then going to the hospital and he thinks buying dog food makes him a great guy.

I have slipped into a pragmatic and emotionless mental state and I should be getting a better handle on how to handle the situation with a clearer thinking process. So if I seem a little flippant or silly it is just me dealing with a difficult situation and I ask you to bear with me.

Thank you for the words and thoughts and prayers. It means a lot to us and won't be forgotten.

Sorry to here about this JD. I hope life gets better for your family. And +1 to the sentiments expressed by honorknight and twistedstem. This forum is a great place for support and a place for a temporary get away. I would like to send a newsletter out as well.

Is "news letter" a code for something else? A lot of people here seem to be reporters.

He now has pneumonia and a tube in his right lung. Hate to say it but it looks like the kid (32 years old) is not going to catch a break. My wife is doing everything to keep herself busy and trying not to think about it....its not working.

Poor kid. After what he and your family has been through, you all need some good news, and a break. He is in the right place for now, they can do their best for him. You and your wife have done all you can do until he comes home, don't beat yourself up thinking you can. You can beat on his brother though, that may help short term. Thoughts and prayers with you and family. God bless

Finally got to talk to my step daughter in length. She is a nurse, and we were discussing the situation when she re-marked about a couple of other cases involving serious upper respirator problems that are a bit strange, and happening at the wrong time of the year. Lord I hope there isn't some supper bug rearing its ugly head.

I hope not too. Do the doctors find this unusual after this type of operation? Sounds like he has been through the ringer, having a lung scrapped and now pneumonia. Pray that it is the body trying to do what it can to heal itself, God does work in mysterious ways sometimes. Keep us updated.
    PM to ya

They can't cut and scrape until the infection is down. The doctors are saying they have pumped so much medicine in him and they don't understand why the infection(s) are not going away. I know that I am grasping at straws but I wonder if the 50 year pollen vortex we are going through doesn't have something to do with it.

Thinking about how violent a person I once was I know it wouldn't help anything now. But it sounds so good.....maybe just once.

Kinda using this thread for a diary now, and a lot of questions on stick-ems here and there. I sincerely hope no one minds.

You, a violent man? No way, bet you were provoked, lol. Just think about it then. Hard, fast and repeatedly, if that helps.

Prayers to you and yours... I have found that the "Practice" of medicine sucks. While I understand that each person is different and will respond differently to different treatment. The way new Drs. are made is dumb. All the book learning in the world will not prepare you for the real world.

I would gladly take my Dr. any day. He has and I have heard him tell the reception staff..."If Travis calls... get him in. Period. Cancel on someone else move them. He never calls so if he says he is sick get him in!" That's service.

On the bright side your son isn't at the VA right? God Bless

If it was the VA he would be in the waiting room turning into a skeleton. But I still can't overlook the fact they did no blood work the 1st time he was there and they turned him out with a script for pain pills. I never thought to ask if they took X-rays......hmmm

My wife has taken to reading my posts so the only private place I had to go is no longer private.

I have been told that he will be going to a nursing home from the hospital so that is one less thing to worry about, and a relief.

Again, thank you for all the kind thoughts and words.

My wife has informed me he has taken a turn for the worst. They removed 1and 1/2 cups of infection from 1 lung so the meds are not working. They have a call in for the surgeon. What is this crap in his system?

I do not know what is going on anymore.

They gave him a bath, I assume that is a good thing.

And now they are talking about a blood transfusion. Is this another good thing, have they hit on something?
