My wife's son has been to the EM Room 3 times in the past 5 weeks with an upper respiratory problem. Once diagnosing him with pleurisy and sending him home with a nebulizer and a script for pain meds. The 3rd time they finally admitted him. He now has a drain tube in his left lung and is legally blind in his left eye. They removed over 50ml of fluid from his left lung twice in a 24 hour period. His right lung is now infected along with his liver. They don't know what is wrong. Some genius decides to call in an infection specialist. The specialist says he has a “staff “ infection and should never have been released in the first place. He is taking shots through his back into his lungs and shots in the eyeball. 11 fluid bags in the last 12 hours. My wife has not left the hospital and I am stuck at home waiting for phone calls and email updates because I have to babysit my wife's mother and 2 grand kids. Probably just as well because I would probably be in jail if I had gone to the hospital. A fucking staff infection....are you kidding me.

Thank you for all the kind words, it means a lot. Right now I am so pissed off its hard to stay calm and logging in here does have a calming affect. I can't go anywhere any way so I might as well sat on here and see how many of you I can befuddle. e-mail screen is up permanently with an audio alert and if anyone but my wife calls they are dismissed rather quickly. This family just can't seem to catch a brake and it is wearing me down.

Posting +++UPDATE+++ seems rather presumptuous on my part but I needed to air it out.

He is in good hands, even though it may not seem that way now. They are the "specialists" and that is all a human can do is get him to them and let them do their work. I too wanted to take a doctors head off once, that will do no good, just take care of yourself, for them, and keep a clear head. I used to walk around the neighborhood, keeps you busy, you can let your mind kinda go and be close to home. Be careful driving too, the mind can wander.

Just talked to my wife. He now has blood clots in his legs and the fever is worse. They are bring in a lung specialist to operate and scrape his lungs. It seems nothing will improve until the infection is out of his lungs. He is 32 years old..................If they had of kept him in the hospital the first time none of this would be happening.

Some hospitals are quick to diagnose and release, then after a few repeat ER visits for the same condition they get it right. Have trust in the doctors that they will do God's work. When it all boils down to gravy, they are his only hope for recovery right now. Small comfort I know, but you have done all you can possibly do. I feel your pain and anger, all too much, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Now they are telling us to prepare for the worst. The lung has to be removed cleaned and put back. I will say it again, if they had been diligent and kept him in the first time, this would not be happening.

My wife has finally come home from the hospital and she is totally ragged out. I have no idea what to do to help her, and I am not use to being helpless. She is being spelled by other family members and finally getting some sleep, fitful at best. The grand kids have gone to stay with my wife's daughter and that is a real help.

I will probably be dropping off this forum all together. We are now poised to take in the sick stepson for long term care. He has no job or insurance. His wife has no job or insurance. The only thing I can give up to help with money is cigars and the 2 bottles of scotch I buy every year, and no more beer. On top of everything the kitchen plumbing just blew up. Fxuxck the world.

I'm really sorry to hear this, JD. And sorrier still that you've been dealt such a tough hand to play. It's been said that God doesn't give one a burden that you can't carry. I pray this is true in your case, my friend. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know.
