What's Your Job?

Well as employment is on my mind lately - I know a lot of you saw my announcement thread, and I really appreciate all the congratulations - I thought it might be interesting to learn the different lines of work we're all involved in. Some people like their job, others not so much...either way, share what ya wanna share! I'll go first :-)

So, as already stated, I just accepted a new position. Been in there a few days already, and I love it. I work for a company called TCSE, Inc (The Customer Service Experts). We are a customer service consultation organization that provides site management services. I am now an Assistant Manager of Customer Service for two mall locations in my area. My responsibility is to ensure that our C.S. kiosk provides superior services, as well as to start integrating C.S. personnel throughout the malls to establish a greater level of customer service. In other words, my job is to: look sharp, maintain excellent relations with customers, mall management, and all of the stores, and make every single person I meet a little bit happier for our interaction. I love this job!

Note: I'm still a badass underneath it all...you know how I roll ;-)

The title that corperate gave me is Director of Engineering but that sounds alot better than it really is. I work at Residence Inn by Marriott but I work for Interstate Hotels and Resorts. I am the manager of the maintenance dept. At the hotel level they call me the Chief Engineer but even that sounds better than it is. I am certified in HVAC so my main job is keeping the 108 AC units and furnaces working as well as the rest of the stuff at the hotel. And making sure my guys are doing the same.

I worked from home for 5 years building online training courses for a major National company. When times got tough, they let me go to save money. I'm currently out of work (since March of 09). There are no jobs available around here because of a 6 month long strike at the biggest mine just down the street from me.

Basically, I'm a website designer capable of building database driven websites, online training material, online testing, printable training certificates and much more. Yes, that was a plug. ;)

Warehouse Monkey Extraordinaire and Mass Coffee Consumer. I stack and un-stack boxes monday through friday 7am - 5pm all while drinking buckets of the "free" coffee my employer provides, these boxes also provide hot and cold air for people that can afford it. But most of the day I'm just puppy guarding a few hundred thousand dollars worth of merchandise. I'm like a security guard with a clamp-lift instead of a gun.

My Title is Supply Chain General Foreman. I work for one of the worlds largest (and best) makers of wallboard (we invented it) at a plant here in North Florida. My job is to manage all of the employees who move product in and out of the plant. I accomplish this by riding around on a golf cart smoking cigars off and on all day (woo hoo) telling people what to do between the myriad of meetings I go too. Some of my operators just call me "The General". The constant burning of premium cigars is now part of my proffesional personna. (What a job, only in America!)

Well, I could take the easy way out and just say I work in the IT world, but for the first time I will actually try to explain my job. Any how...hope this makes sense. I have worked as a Network Engineer for the last 10 years here in GA....which basically means:

I am responsible for installing, maintaining and supporting computer communication networks within an organization or between organizations. Our goal is to ensure the smooth operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for my users (staff, clients, customers, suppliers, etc.)

I used to tell people that I was an "attitude adjustment specialist" for the city. They were too embarrassed to ask what that was and that way I didn't get crap about their last parking ticket.

Now I teach Criminal Justice at a small college in Syracuse.
