What do ya do when the punch doesnt work?

I have a punch cutter under my Xikar lighter. Yesterday I punched a cigar and the hole would not come off the end. I tried several times to re-punch and ended up butchering the end. I was not at home, so I could not use my cutter.

Just wondering if anyone has had that problem and a solution for next time, other than to take a cutter.

Thats weird. Sometimes when I use the punch cutter, the plug wont come out in the cutter, but I just flick it off with my nail. I can't imagine it not coming off, unless the blade was dull and just wouldn't cut into the cap.

I punch almost like a religion. It seems the sticks that have a thicker wrapper have plugs that tend to stick. From what I can gather, it's because you've not severed the entire binder, and that's whats holding on. It will usually come off with a fingernail as has been mentioned. I have mangled a shoulder or two, yes...but sometimes when you go to re-punch...use a little more pressure that you normally would.

Oh. I forgot to mention. Make sure your punch blades are extended all the way. The twisty ones from Xikar have like 3 positions.

Besides using a good sharp pocket knife, finger nails will do in a pinch (get it...in a pinch).

I have had that happen a few times. Had to pry the bit out with my knife. I've been using my knife lately to make a V cut, works pretty good.
