Question regarding format of new posts

I must be doing something wrong. When I type a post for submission I format it with paragraphs just like one would do with a letter or whatever but when I post it, it comes out all in one paragraph with no spacing between.
I've looked all over for some place where I can change settings or whatever it takes to correct this but I haven't found anywhere that allows me to do this.
As an example, I originally typed this post with three paragraphs in it. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks,

you need to use line breaks. I would type it but it's html and won't show up. google line breaks for html. it will show ya.

Okay. I looked it up. This is a test of what I may have learned.
