Tobacco Beatles

If I were to go to a cigar store and see that there was one box where the cigars had holes in them, would buying another cigar be okay or normally do the insects go from box to box?

As i understand it, the beetles dont actually eat the cigar for food. Its just that when the cigar is rolled there are beetle eggs in there, all the companies take measures to kill the eggs, but some survive.

When the eggs hatch the beetle then "eats" his way out of the cigar. but wont "eat" another one or lay eggs or anything like that. But i might be mistaken

i will inspect the cigars around them. a tobacco beetle will eat his way out but if there are no signs on another cigar there is a good chance it isnt infected.
if you are worried you can always throw your cigars in the deep freeze for a day or two. then a day or two in the fridge. then back tot he humi. (all within a zip lock of course) this will kill any eggs that are in/on there.

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't see any holes in my Ghurka that I bought, and it was wrapped in plastic and on the other side of the room so I don't think I have anything to worry about. Plus all I have in my dorm is a mini fridge with no freezer, so I'd be *** out of luck anyways.

I'd smoke it sooner, just to be safe. Depending on the size of your stash, you might loose a lot. Why chance it.

It might also be a good oportunity to introduce your frinds to the fine pleasures of cigar smoking. Have them chip in for a bottle of Cognac and you provide the cigars = brotherhood abounds

Kuzi do you do this? I heard setting your cigars inside a dark garbage bag in the sun would kill them, and was worried about changing the flavors of the cigar in the heat, I would much rather do it in a freezer....seems less like it could have the opportunity to hurt my cigars.

This is just an opinion, I don't think putting your cigars in a dark plastic bad in the sun will change the flavor of your cigars at all. I think it will mutate your cigars into a festering pile of mold and beetles.

So if you're thinking of this as an option, why don't you send your cigars to me and I'll "smoke" those pesky worries away.

But seriously, if you put your cigars in a ziplock bag in the freezer it will kill off your suspicions of beetles and their eggs.

Don't make me pull out the ZOOMED in picture of tobacco beetles again for the class, it caused WAY too many nightmares.

I'm being serious now, I'm also going to warn you in advance that I'm colorblind and I'm assuming that it must have something to do with the color, BUT how can you tell it's weed?

Same here Snake...everytime I see this word in a post I CRINGE....and it will be at least 6-8 hours before i can check my humis...talk about agony!!!!

LoL Yea it is partially due to the color, which is very green, also you can see all the seeds laying in the plate, plus look at the actual clump. It has large stems with buds coming off of it... I'm no master roller, but I'm thinking that wouldn't be a good cigar to have that many stems.

Yeah, my eye doctor says it's incorrect to call myself "colorblind" and I should refer to myself as "color deficient" and that I have a "green deficiency"... it's my deficiency and I'll call what I want!!
