Smoking in the garage

HugemooseHugemoose Everyone, Registered Users Posts: 458
So as the temperature continues to drop up here in the NE, I have been thinking about retiring to the garage to enjoy a cigar. My main problem with this would be the accumulation of smoke. Now it is a big garge, but I don't want to be swimming in smoke nor do I want the place to smell of stagnet smoke.

So, any suggestions on how to eliminate the smoke? Any cheap ozone machines out there....

It may sound stupid, but if you open the door a little with a box fan blowing out, you should not have a problem.

I don't have a garage, but yesterday I had to retreat to my storage shed to get out of the wind. It's only 10 X 12, so I'll see what it smells like today, but it's far enough from the house that it doesn't really make a difference.

    It is getting freaking cold!!!

A buddy of mine and I recently smoked 2 cigars in his garage while working on a car and had no problems. The smoke did not linger around and by the time I left you could not smell any smoke at all. We had 1 of the garage doors open but no fan. I think if you had the door or window slightly open you would have no problem at all.

My garage is large and I try to leave the door open a little. Might smell smoke for the next day but it is gone by day 2. I think I am going to put a space heater out there and just crack the door. I can't believe how cold it is here already.

You could probably get away with a space heater and a cracked door.

I use our outside patio furniture, set up like a mini living room in my garage for winter smoking. The furniture has to go somewhere, and with the addition of a space heater it works great.

I also use the dust collection system from my power tools to help vent the garage. That way I don't have to have a door open.

Here on Vancouver Island our winters usually mean lots of rain and big winds, so having a door open is not a good thing. I just let the fan run for an hour or so and the smoke...she's gone!

I figured that every year this furniture takes up a lot of room in the garage for storage. So why not put them to use? It's actually pretty comfy.

I love sitting out on my patio with a cigar, even when it's cold and rainy. But if it gets too cold or the wind is blowing, I hole up in the garage. There's a space in one corner where I have a reading light set up along with an electric heater. I usually use on of the chairs we use when we're travelling with our trailer and it's pretty comfy all around.

As for the smoke, it's usually gone by the next day but, if it isn't, I just set a fan to blow out one slightly open door while pulling air in through another. Works well for me.

I do the same thing...I have a one car garage. The patio furniture has to go somewhere, so last year I set up a little seating area and I now have a tv in there. It's a nice little getaway. I'll bring the space heater in there this year.

Since I'm in college (and live in a dorm) I usually smoke outside, unless Stan is free (which is only saturdays.) I don't mind cold.

We should clean up my garage for the winter... I am getting the windows installed in the sunroom today though so it should be even better :)...

All "renny in the closet" jokes aside, he means the glass windows. There were screens before.

WOW....I see I am not the only one who enjoys the outdoors with my cigar!!!  I was almost starting to think that I would have to resort to quitting until it warmed up again....notttt.... I had been thinking about the garage idea, but was wondering about the lingering cigar smell.  But quite possibly leaving the door open slightly and windows open a bit...definitely will have to add a space heater as it gets colder...a small fridge...microwave...32" flat screen...guess I better wait to see how it works first.

Heh, certainly not the only one. I think this weekend I might have time to start adding some insulation to my shed in the backyard. I ran an extension cord out there this week so I could read and smoke, but the temp is dropping even further. With insulation down, next step is to find a cost-effective space heater!

I recently modified a finished downstairs room into my smoking room. I do three things: 1. crack a window and place a small fan exhausting out and cover the remainder of the window 2. Light a smoke eater candle, preferably before I light up to get a head start 3. Immediately empty all ashtrays because those stale ashes smell more than a lit cigar. I think I am going to improve on the fan idea by building a block off that covers the part of the window that is not actually venting air from the fan, kind of like a fan shroud on an automobile. I read someplace that the secret is negative pressure in the room, that way when you provide a place for air to escape it goes where you want it to go.....outside. At any rate it works pretty well for me. last week I had two friends over and all three of us were down there for a few hours and two of us smoked two cigars, so there was quite a bit of smoke to clear. There is more smoke detectable with three cigars going but when I smoke alone there is not smoke detectable whatsoever the next day.

I smoke in my garage daily, it isn't an issue. And I only have a small one-car garage. Just open the door for a few minutes when you get done smoking, you'd be suprised with how quickly the air circulates out.

Wow, sorry it too me so long to respond, I have been really busy with work. Anyway, those are some good tips about how to get the smoke out. I will probably try to crack a garage door and leave a window open with a fan or two. And I shouldn't have to worry about heat. It is propane heated :-D

    Here is some picture porn:

For reference, it's a 5 car garage. This little "man cave" was just set up because it will serve as a green room for the bands that are going to be here next week. We have two huge fields where my cousin is throwing a big birthday party next weekend. I mean like 200 people big. So there are 4 live bands playing, a pig roast, leg of cow, full catering (he's the caterer), 8 kegs, and lots of cigars!!!

That's the only Keg that has ever been in the kegerator. It's the only one worthy in this area!

Oh and I think tomorrow night I might have a cigar in there.....gota test it out. At least I won't be shivering this time.
