Recommendations Needed

I have a trip coming up with my two best friends - it's our "Boys' Weekend" - when we leave the women at home - and we go to the beach, maybe do some offshore fishing and/or gambling at the casinos. The two other guys that are going do not smoke cigars, but smoke cigarettes and/or dip snuff. I told them the hardest decision I would have to make would be as to what cigars to take with me. They asked that I bring them one each. Since I have NO IDEA what they would like - what are some recommendations? I'd like to take something respectable, but I don't want to break the bank either (Opus X). Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Coincidentally, firemshll, I just mentioned elsethread that the Romeo y Julieta Viejo would be a good choice for just such a situation. There are many others, of course, and I'm sure lots of the helpful folks here'bouts will offer more suggestions.

Wanna knock their socks off? Take along a couple Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet churchills.

Something a little more medium bodied that is a dependable smoke: Oliva Serie G cameroon.

Flavorful, mild -medium bodied: 5 Vegas Limitada 2007.

I can agree with the Viejo recommendation as well, I found that to be a pleasant cigar.

Well I would suggest a couple Rocky Patel Vintage 92's.  They are a great smooth smoke with a classy look.  The cigar and the wrapper both look classy and anything "vintage" impresses people.

And I'll definitely second that recommendation. I haven't had the others Joe mentioned. Yet.

Just don't go overboard and get a stong full stick for their first smoke. Newb's usually are ready for those straight off, need to show them how great our hobby is before hammering them with a powerful stick. My recommendation is something that is not too expensive that will make you cry if they put it down. Try to find a $2-4 stick that you personally have enjoyed to share with them.

You haven't had a Cuban Cabinet or 07 yet?

Nope. In fact, I've never had any 5 Vegas or Sol Cubanos at all. Scrambler just sent me some of the former, though, and I've got some others on the way.

I do believe you will enjoy them both.. Which of the 5 Vegas did he hit you with ?

I only had time to glance at them really quickly at noon today, but I think there was a Gold and a Series A in there.

Two very different blends I think you will like both but favor the "A" based on things you have said you liked in the past..

I think you'll like the Series "A" urby. I almost bought a box a couple days ago, but I kinda did a double take on my purchases from the day and backed off a little. As for the 5 Vegas line in general, you'll have to be sure and grab a pif from me the next time I participate and I'll be sure to throw in some of the Limitadas, they are really good cigars. Oh, and the Cuban Cabinet is a stone cold knockout.

I will back Joe and Freak on the recommendations for Oliva G and the RP Vin'92. Oliva G is my go to smoke right now and the '92 is what got me hooked on cigars. But I would add the suggestion of a Padron, not the anniverasies or anything special, just the regular Padrons. You can't go wrong with any of those 3. Price wise the Olivas and Padrons are fairly inexpensive, too.

I'll try to remember that, Joe. I haven't jumped into that thread, yet. I did get into the MAW thread, though. Maybe I'll wish for Cuban Cabinets when I get to make a wish.

I'm looking forward to trying the 5 Vegas line, including the Gold.

If you are wanting to try some more 5 Vegas and the Cuban Cabinets, let me know and we could work somthing out. I have some extras of all of those. I'd hate for you to waste a MAW on the cuban cabinet. It is a good stick, just others that are more deserving of a wish.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. I am a HUGE fan of the 5 Vegas - I have to order them here because none of the B&M's in my area carry them. As far as the 5 Vegas - I like all of them but A is my favorite, then classic, then Miami, then Gold. Haven't tried the Shorty. I would like to try the Cuban Cabinet. I think I'll throw at least 1 of those in my next order -- sounds like a good stick. I'm not a fan of the RP '92 - I have an employee that LOVES them, but I gave Rocky another chance the other day and had an EDGE - I really enjoyed that one. Again, thanks for the recommendations - I think I will preview the cuban cabinet and we might go with that.

I may just do that, van. Thanks.

    Now that I'm home, I see I need to make a correction: there's a Gold and a Classic, not a Series A.

Yea, I've heard so many good things about the 5 Vegas Series A I can't wait to try them.  Gotta wait a bit till I get another pay check or two till I can place another good order.  Wife and I just had a baby so cash is a bit tight right now.  I can't find them at any shops either... Anyone know why that is?

I'm a big fan of the 5 Vegas also. My friends whom I have shared them with (Gold and Classic) all enjoy them. It's an added bonus that they're not terribly priced. Plus they see the gold band and are easily impressed. I just received last Friday's sampler deal, so finally have some of the 'A's and Miamis to try.

I picked up that same one... Don't those Miamis look great.. I usually let new cigars rest a while, but I may not follow through this time ..

i know im a bit late on this but... cusano 18 (i cant believe no on has said this yet!!) its a bit mild but its very good and full flavor. should be a good smoke for a newb but still peak the intrest of a seasoned smoker.

another one is the sancho panza extra fuerte. Its a bit more full bodied but they are very inexpensive so if people take a few puffs and throw em out you wont feel quite as bad. ...any left overs you can send to me.

im not 100% but i think that 5 vegas may be an online only cigar. Ive never seen them in any shop anywhere ever.

Looks to me like Cigar.com and Cigar International are the only that I have seen carry 5 Vegas.

A shop by me has them almost all the time, but most of mine do come through online purchases..well kept secret but we are working hard to spread the word..
