First Cruise

Been talking about going on a cruise for years with the wife and finally decided to go on Royal Caribbean in Feb. Got a balcony room so I can have my smokes. It's a 4 night cruise so do you think I can get buy with the ziplock bags from ccom with water pillows or do I need to purchase a traveldor? Does that need to be seasoned?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Keep an eye on the sprint sale for a 15 count herf a dor. You can pick one up relatively cheap and they always come in handy. No seasoning required either. Where are ya cruisin' to??

I thnk the bag w.ould be fine the thing you will really wish you had was a travel ashtray like the one from xikar. I forgot mine on my cruise but I smoked in the lounge not on the balcony mainly because there is no where to ash and you can't ash overboard

Be sure to check their rules. We went on a cruise a few years ago on Princess and they didn't allow smoking on the balcony.

Scott, please double check on their smoking policy. I heard so many horrible stories. this is a reason why I haven't taken any cruise trip recently. Now a days only few cruise liners allow smoking without a designated area. Wish you the best...life is short. Enjoy the trip!!!

Hope you have a better experience than my first cruise last year. Left out of Boston just in time for Haloween storm. We got our A** kicked on that boat. I was almost thrown headlong out of bed. Back to island vacations for the wife and I....

Tried to get my passport the other day. The Birth Record I've used all my life applying for work, etc. is not valid for a passport. So I had to spend more $ to order two copies online. Hopefully I get it soon.

On a lighter note the Royal Caribbean Intl site states concerning smoking:

"Generally, smoking is permitted outdoors on only one side of the ship; and smoking is permitted on all private ocean front balconies, including Loft Suite balconies on Oasis Class. To assist in locating areas where smoking is permitted, you will find visible signage posted within all smoking areas and ashtrays that are provided for your use."

I may have to call and double check on this.

FYI about smoking on cruises. I recently went on a Carnival cruise out of Baltimore and it was def a smoker friendly ship. On the upper deck smoking was allowed on one side which was a large area and on all room balconies. Also there was a cigar bar that was open the entire time I was on the ship that sold cigars and drinks. Also the casino was smoking at the machines as long as you were playing.

Most, if not all, of the nicer Royal Caribbean ships have cigar lounges. Not a smoking bar, but a purpose built cigar lounge. Go to the RC web site, and look up the ship you are going to be on and you can find out for sure. They'll have pics too. RC has always been very cigar friendly.

Just talked to a Royal Caribbean Rep. It appears there is a special cigar policy:

"Pipe and cigar smoking is only permitted within the Cigar lounge. (If no Cigar lounge exists on a particular ship, there will be a designated area for pipe and cigar smoking)"

So, no smoking cigars on balconies but cigarettes are ok...She also said "Smoking venues vary by ship. The location of all smoking venues can be found in the daily cruise compass. Or, you may contact Guest Services once onboard". You can take your own cigars but since I can't smoke off my balcony maybe I'll take my chances and purchase one onboard at the lounge.

I took a cruise to Alaska in August and used Carnival. They allowed smoking on the balcony, which was great. I did hear my neighbor say "He's having another cigar" once, but other than that I didn't hear a peep. I had 2-3 a day. For 4 days, a ziplock is more than enough. I brought a week's supply of cigars, some of which were in a traveldor, while some were just in a cigar case. When we're only talking about a few days, I don't overthink it too much.
