Anybody heard of this church?

The West borough church out of Topeka Kansas.I never heard of them till tonight but evidentally these scumbags who call themselves Christians are going around boycotting the funerals of our fallen soldiers.
Seems they feel God hates us and hates our men and women in uniform.
They were supposed to show up here at a funeral of a local boy. 2 actually did but when they saw the army of mourners that were waiting for them to show they hightailed it out of there.
These people are going to show up at the wrong place sometime and be in way over their heads. And I hope they get what's coming to them.

Yes, they have been around for a while and since the are close to KC they are in the news a lot. I actually saw them protest a military funeral in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are scumbags. I love the motorcycle groups that go to the funerals to deal with this scum.

Agree with the war or not we need to support our troops. The do what they are ordered to do and give so much. If you haven't served you have no idea what it is like.

They've been around for several years. And the motorcycle groups that show up are really cool. They line the highways of the funeral procession and just clog the street when the douch-bags show up.

Pisses me off they have the nerve to say they're Christian.

I try not to pay them or what they say any attention at all. They use a little truth and a whole mass lies to say what they want. Just garbage that doesn't deserve a second thought. I agree, it makes me ashamed that they'd call what they preach Christianity.

Were this that Church that boycotted the funerals of multiple people like those 2 little boys in Oregon or Cali? Forgive me about my lack of west coast news knowledge. This is truly terrible I would never do something like this not even is it was an evil dictator.

Good article, I haven't done any research on them yet but I would find it hard to believe they haven't been more beatings.

Check out the movie Red State, it's kind of inspired by these psychos.

not sure if it was the same church or not. The 2 boys were the Powell kids. Their father killed their mother like 2 years earlier and the police couldn't find the body or enough evidence to prove he did it. Then about 6 months before the kids death, Josh Powell's dad was arrested for child pornography. Then Josh Powell when receiving the kids for a supervised visit closed the door in the ladies face after his kids walked in, and within 10 minutes the whole place was up in flames. His kids were found with axe wounds to the neck. He should not have even had visitation rights, all the evidence was not turned in when it was supposed to be. Josh Powell had cartoon pornography of children having sex with their family members. The whole fu@king family are sick. This all started here in Utah, in West Valley, when he killed his wife. Within 2-3 weeks after her "Disappearance" he packed up and moved to Washington state with his dad. Anyhow, When the church said they were going to boycott the funeral is when " occupy " was in Utah, they showed up to stop them and the church decided to vamoos!!!!

Nothing is going to happen to them -- unfortunately. They've been doing this for years, and they have been to court many a time (the heads of the "church" are all lawyers), and the court has upheld their right to free speech (and rightfully so). They are disgusting, pathetic, terrible excuses for human beings, but nobody is going to touch them. The only thing to do is ignore them.

I was actually quite impressed by that movie! Having seen so many Kevin Smith movies I never believed that he could make a serious drama like that but he really pulled it off. The acting was far beyond what I expected as well. Definitely worth a watch

I've heard of them and seen their signs and heard what they say and it enrages the sheet out of me. Of all things to protest you choose funerals of service members. Have some respect.

Heard and am familiar with this type of group. Like Jake said, there are some motorcycle clubs that volunteer to deal with these groups of lunatics. I have ridden with these clubs before. It never has amounted to violence (in my experience) but the fact that guys like me have to use intimidation to spook these crazies is sad. Typically if you park 6 or 8 bikes in the hotel parking lot where they are staying and just sit on your bikes, they won't come out... but like I said, these morons make guys like me look like evil goons for trying to do a good deed. I am not a bad man. But if I have to scare someone in order for a family to put one of their own to rest, I will do so. If I have to use my appearance to keep protesters at a motorcycle rally in check (where we were raising money for a cancer victim, btw), I will do that as well. Lesser of 2 evils is how I see it.

I was just thinking about this but couldn't remember where I originally saw the article. Thanks for jogging my memory and for reposting the article, Direwolf.

Also, if you want to watch a good documentary about these folks, check out The Most Hated Family in America by Louis Theroux. It shows just how out of touch these Westboro folks are...truly unbelievable to hear them talk about their "church" and "faith", if you can even call it that. More like brainwashed/cult full of hate-speech IMO.

My wife read that a motorcycle club had set up a perimeter and escorted our boy to his final resting place. Don't know if it was the same club or the local club, probably both. But it's good to see the proper respect shown.

The group is called The Patrioit Guard. The work they are doing is one of the most awesome things. Here's a video of the procession that led Jason Rogers .

Yep Louis does great work. I still need to watch the follow up to this, America's Most Hated Family in Crisis. I'm curious to see how it is.
And I'm always amazed to watch and learn about these people who have such different & radical viewpoints. I still can not comprehend how these Westboro folks think they're doing the "right thing" by picketing soldiers' funerals and spreading messages of Hate....some people are just crazy I guess.

Also, kudos to the guys (especially our BOTLs) who run with The Patrioit Guard. They got an awesome thing going and are doing some very admirable work.

I want to know why Christian Churches all over this country have not denounced these people. The silence from the Christian community is deafening.

That's a good point, there may be discussion during service, but nothing public

They call themselves the Westboro BAPTIST Church. Why have we not heard one single word from other Baptist Churches and organizations denoucing their activities and views, and distancing themselves from them?

I guess. You'd think they'd be putting the message on their billboards and anouncement boards, etc., maybe the idea is "ignore these morons and they'll fade away". They're the worst kind of haters, I guess you can call your church 'whatever', doesn't make it true.

They were supposed to show up at a funeral near here a couple years ago, near the same time my son was wounded, friends of mine who were there gave credit to the local sheriffs office, as well as a few well positioned motorcyclists, I believe, for arranging things in such a way that the family of the deceased was never in eyesight of the protestors or their filth.

Being a Baptist Church when you are in the South is as common as being a taco vendor in Tijuana. Common as hell. they are far from Christian in their beliefs as they preach hatred of gays and our country and the men and women that fight for it. God doesn't hate gays, or anyone for that matter so for them to say contrary is frustrating and just plain wrong. They are a cult with a "christian" name.
  • beatnicbeatnic Everyone, Registered Users Posts: 4,133
I believe the church has been denounced by the Southern Baptist and others. There's just no organized body to really be effective. As to Christians speaking up, our style is more personal, as excellently demonstrated right here.
    Peace BOTLs

Awesome clip. It really speaks volumes about people who will go so far out of their way to show such respect as they do.
