Recommendation for someone else.

I met a retired cigar smoker at a bar tonight who had stopped smoking cigars because he said the quality of Macanudos has drastically gone down in the last 2 years and he had been smoking exclusively them for years. I gave him one of my Ave Maria Lionhearts that I had in my travel humidor and he really enjoyed that but said he could probably only handle one of those about once a week. But he is looking for a new mild with a lot of flavor so he can smoke 2 a night. My first instinct was to recommend AVO, I'm not sure if 5 Vegas Gold would be on par with the old school macanudo. He said he didn't care about the price. Perdomo Reserve 10th champagne?

Avo Classic Robusto or Man O' War Virtue, both flavorful and a mild smoke at a decent price all around. My opinion though.

The 10th Champagne is A good all around mild smoke. I highly recommend it.

Oliva Conn., Cabaigaun, Camacho Conn. All good milds.

The new Alec Bradley American Classic Blend is good for a mild/med and the regular La Aurora

The 5 Vegas Classic reminded me strongly of the macanudo's I used to smoke when I was 18 back in 1997. He probably goes further back than that, but it might be worth a try. At one point during the smoke so did the Punch Uppercut for some reason, but that was after a long night of poker and jack daniels, lol. For another good mild but flavorful cigar, also tell him to check out Gurkha Park Ave.

Man, the Gurkha Park Avenue is a good one too. All of them are that everyone is telling you. Just have to choose. Take in consideration, the price tag of each. Then go from there.

I made a list last night and passed it along, he has some ordering to do. I think he will most likely be happy with the first one he tries provided the construction and flavor is good. He said he used to carry a drill bit with him at the end and stick it inside his macanudos when they were plugged. He said he even wrote Macanudo a nasty letter complaining and they sent him two free boxes, he said he smoked 3 of them trying to like them but ended up shipping them back. I should probably run into him next week and see how it went, if he did get them in I am fairly confident he should be pleased, if not I have some more suggestions to pass on.

The 211 Corona size from Esteban Carreras is fantastic, up there with the Cabaiguan IMO

I'm probably just being ignorant here, but I didn't realize there were some people so loyal to one brand that a bad experience with that brand could ruin cigars for them. Sounds like you have a good chance for some missionary work. ;)

The man was retired and had smoked macanudos only for 20+ years, he even convinced the local smoke shop here to start carrying them, so he was so upset when the flavor changed for the worse and the cigars started plugging on him. He honestly thought that maybe Macanudo was sending their better tobacco overseas to try appeal to a new market like China. He was like a pig in slop with that Ave Maria. And I do feel like a cigar missionary some days. I finally found a sports bar/casino where I work near that allows me to 1. smoke cigars 2. watch football 3. drink beer 4. gamble all at the same time. I get approached constantly about what I'm smoking.

It is!!!! I even went there to watch that terrible football game tonight, just so I wouldn't have to stand outside and smoke.

I love the Park Avenue. The Gurkha Symphony is great also...one of my favorite Connecticut's, and the price is right too! Another good Connie is the Gran Habano #1 Connecticut. And of course, the new Room 101 Connecticut...very nice!
