Smoking Bans

I just returned from a trip to Savannah Georgia. If you have never been, your missing out. The city is wonderful and full of history. On the one and only negative note they have recently banned smoking in ALL businesses. That includes bars and B & M's! The only exception is rooftop or outside in which only 20% of the entire outdoor area can have smoking. These smoking bans are out of control. I think the government should allow each establishment to creat their own rules which can be posted on the door as a smoking permitted or smoking not permitted thus allowing patrons to choose where they prefer to do business. I also get the restaurant ban, but a bar and B & M should be allowed to have smoking.

On a second note, I am going to Atlantic City at the end of next month. I heard about the smoking bans in the casinos! I've researched it some and saw where they banned their own ban 2 weeks after passing the measure. I cannot find any other information as to whether you can smoke now or not. I know that the old ban stated that 25% of the gaming floor could be smoking. If anyone has information about Atlantic City please let me know.

    The bans over in the U.K. are ridiculous too. I used to run an Ex-servicemans/working mans club and when the ban came in we had to create an outside shelter. Only to be told a few weeks later that the shelter wasn't in line with their regulations even though it was practically round the back of the building they demand it must be 70% open leaving you with pretty much nothing but a bus shelter. Useless. It means in the winter (which is most of the year :P) you either don't smoke or get wet.

    25% sounds about right. It has however been over a year since I was last there so I'm not sure if that is still the norm or not.... interesting tid bit on them banning their own ban. Didn't know that =}

    What? You want property owners to be able to decide what legal activities they allow on their own property? That's crazy!

    I don't know about in Atlantic City but I went to the casino in Cherokee NC and smoking was allowed in there. I think there was a small area that was non-smoking.

    Yeah! What do you think this is? America? That place died........like the goose that laid the golden eggs, murdered by it's own citizens who couldn't stand the idea that plain ordinary citizens had the right to self-determination. Thank goodness we have Big Brother Mitch McConnell and Big Sister Nancy Pelosi to restrain our impulses and monitor our thoughts and actions. Who knows where the madness would end? People might start not forking over the greater part of their income to the gang in charge. Then where would we be?

    I was in AC back in May..I went to about 6 or 7 casinos and there was smoking in all of them. There were smoking areas and non smoking areas..but the real weird thing is..i was playing a slot machine in a non smoking area and my brother law was playing slot directly behind me and was in the smoking area..but either way you should be able to get your smoke on.

    Here is an article that talks about the ban being repealed. The good news is that the banned ban is in effect til 2011. That is great news for me!! Bringing lots of sticks!.

    I walked into a cigar store in Albany, NY and sheepishly asked "Is it okay to smoke in here?" The guy behind the counter said. "Of course. The people who run this state are pretty stupid, but no one in their right mind would consider a smoking ban in a tobacco store!" Don't bet on it. Idiots.

    A few weeks back I told everybody how I cannot smoke on my patio at my apartment. Luckily I was able to take a long walk in a park last night and enjoy a Gloria Cubano. Tasted so good after so long of not smoking.

    Oh wow.... I didn't even think to ask if I could smoke on my patio... Maybe it's a good thing for I've smoked a bunch on there and no complaints yet!
