I use a cooledor - and I fuggin' love it. I'll take some pics tonight and post em for ya if you're interested. It was crazy easy to make too and holds a F-ton.

And even on days where it's 90+ degrees all day my cooler on tends to change maybe +/-5°

yea please take some pics...as well....you leave the AC on in ur house...cuz thats what I need this most for cuz my humi no matter where I put it gets up to 79 degrees sometimes and I have to leave a fan on it the whole time..

We don't use the AC or heater in my house whatsoever - energy *** we are.

Definitely take the normal precautions with a warm house though - Keep the Humi out of direct sunlight (which actually isn't a big deal depending on what kind of cooler you get, thick coolers are barely effected by sunlight) and in a room that has as close to a constant temperature throughout the day as possible, those kinda things. Also a big thing that is so simple that so many people don't realize... Open the windows at night, close them during the day! And if you can help it close blinds/curtains if you are not going to be in the room during the day... You get used to these things when you don't use the AC :-/ lol.

Also, When I say it holds a ton... it really does. If you look at the cigar porn thread I just posted all my 'gars - and that entire collection is held in my one 48qt. coolidor. Well, Except for the 5-6 Acids I own that are in a desktop humi by themselves... Don't want my coolidor smelling like a hooker.

I actually just bought a Vinotemp off Craigslist on Friday for the same purpose. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

It's in disarray right now because of new arrivals.

These are the beads I use ($4 for 4lb bag of unscented silica kitty litter)
image This is how I use them, bought a couple .99 cent eggs of pantyhose, and cut them up into balls.

Here's the kitty litter humidification in action in my hooker humi (The humidity is low because of the photo shoot, promise)

I have two stack-able coolers, and a small vinotemp sitting in my closet, but I've yet to do anything to it. It needs drawers or trays, or something to hold sticks first. I'm also going to have to use beads with it I think, and I'm reluctant to go through the learning curve necessary to figure them out, even though it's probably small.

My cooler is usually organized but right now the new stuff I've received in the past few days I just tossed on top... Something I've read that people suggest to make a coolidor seem more organized is to turn it on its side (like, take off a handle, and put it up vertically) and the put a few screws on the inside and set a plank of cedar in there - effectively making it a little cabinet that opens like a refrigerator and has shelves opposed to the digging through a cooler feel.

Just a thought. I plan to try that with my next coolidor.

Amazing how fast that can happen. The coolidor is the coolest thing ever. I love mine. I have a serious smoking humi, but I like to age in the coolidor. I would say that if environmental concerns are big, it's a cheap and easy way to get around it. At least you can buy some time to save up for the vino temp...

I plan to build a coolidor for myself. Does drilling into the plastic risk having opening that mess with the air exchange at all?

That's actually a really really good question that I didn't think of. I bet you the places I read about it on mentioned that though... Maybe a better alternative to screwing/drilling in the side would be using a water-based glue or something to hold it in place... Dunno /shrug. When I'm not at work and can freely browse the interwebs I'll do a little searching and see :-P

One of the coolidor directions I saw reccomended exactly what GadwinDuil said in using a water-based unscented glue.

I just keep a lot of sticks in the boxes with the lids removed. Trays from boxes also work well to stack singles on. As long as there is some Spanish Cedar in there somewhere I would rather NOT use glue or anything else if I don't have to, and the boxes actually help keep some semblance of order inside what is a very large storage area.

I guess if a guy wants it wall to wall Cedar then yes using an unscented glue would be best. It isn't like the cedar panels weigh that much, nor will they be subjected to much rough usage so it doesn't have to be Gorilla Glue or anything, IMO.

why not get thin strips of wood to act as ledges on the sides of the cooler, and double stick tape them... then you can rest your thin planks of cedar on those ledges to act as shelves... I would imagine the tape would hold very well... I used some to attach some stuff to my car dash and has held up very well considering the extreme heat that can happen in a car.

well another way to build shelves in there is to drill holes into the sides where you want your shelf to be at...insert Little dowls(small round piece of would, or go to home depot in the cabinet section they have those metal round one for kitchen cabinets to hold up the shelf), use a epoxy glue in the hole while you put ur shelf piece in there, and then bam, permanent shelf

Joey just my two cents, but I live A little north of you and given that for most of the months of july and august it never gets below 70 even at night, I would think a winador would be better. A cooler can keep a tempature constanst for a little while, but over time temps will gradually increase until it stays in the 75 to 80 range or even greater. However a coolador is a lot cheaper so give it a try you might have better luck than I did.

Love the thought of this. I'm tapped on room and hate to have great DD slip by. Looks like its time to invest/craft one. Thanks for the pics aswell. Keep the ideas coming.
