what exactly is this test?

    it is to test the air seal of your humidor. You place a dollar bill half in and half out of the humidor with the lid closed. If you can easily pull the bill out, then you have a bad seal on your humidor. If it is quite difficult, then you have a good seal

    it's to test the seal on your humidor to make sure no humidity escapes it unless it's fully open.  Place a dollar bill half inside the humidor and half outside and shut it.  Gently pull on the dollar bill, just enough that it will move if the seals not good.  If it doesn't move and gives resistance, then your seal is good.
