The Stimulus Package

There are things that I favor in the package, such as additional support for primary and secondary education, but there are a lot of things that totally piss me off.
TOP 28 FAST FACTS ABOUT THE HOUSE DEMOCRATS' TRILLION DOLLAR SPENDING PLAN The $850 billion Phony Stimulus Plan slated for a House vote later this week will exceed more than $1.1 trillion when adding in the interest ($300 plus billion) between 2009-2019 to pay for it.
The Capitol Hill Democrats' plan includes funding for contraceptives, regardless of where anyone stands on taxpayer funded contraception, there is no question that it has NOTHING to do with the economy. (Since Monday this idiocy has been removed -- due to bi-partisan outcry!)
The Phony Stimulus Plan could open billions of taxpayer dollars to left-wing groups like the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now (ACORN), which has been accused of voter fraud, is reportedly under federal investigation; and played a key role in the housing meltdown. (NOTE: we have discovered that ACORN will recieve over 4 billion dollars!)
Here are just a few of the programs and projects that have been included in the House Democrats' proposal:
$650 million for digital TV coupons;
$600 million for new cars for the federal government;
$6 billion for colleges/universities;
$50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts;
$44 million to repair the U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters;
$200 million for the National Mall, including $21 million for sod!
The plan establishes at least 32 new government programs at a cost of over $136 billion. That means more than a third of this plan's spending provisions are dedicated to creating new government programs.
The plan provides spending in at least 150 different federal programs, ranging from Amtrak to the Transportation Security Administration. Is this the "targeted" plan Democratic leaders promised?
Even though the legislation contains at least 152 separate spending proposals, the authors of the plan can only say that 34 have any chance at keeping or growing jobs.
Just one in seven dollars of an $18.5 billion expenditure on "energy efficiency" and "renewable energy programs" would be spent within the next 18 months.
The total cost of this one piece of legislation is almost as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government.
House Democrats' plan will cost each and every household $6,700 in additional debt, paid for by our children and grandchildren.
The plan provides enough spending – $825 billion – to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000.
$825 billion is enough to give every person living in poverty in the United States $22,000.
Although the House Democrats' proposal has been pitched as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the plan – or three percent – is for road and highway spending. A recent study from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that only 25 percent of infrastructure dollars can be spent in the first year, making the one year total less than $7 billion.
Much of the funding within the House Democrats' proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the plan provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) – a program that already has $16 billion on hand. States also are sitting on some $9 billion in unused highway funds – funds that Congress is prepared to rescind later this year.
All board members of the "Accountability and Transparency Board" created by this legislation are appointees of the President; none will be appointed by Congress.
A scant 2.7 percent, or $22.3 billion of the overall package, is dedicated to small business tax relief.
The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that the legislation increases by seven million the number of people who get a check back from the IRS that exceeds what they paid in payroll and income taxes.
The "Making Work Pay" tax credit at the center of the plan amounts to $1.37 a day, or about the price of a cup of coffee.
Almost one-third of the so-called "tax relief" in the House Democrats' plan is spending in disguise, meaning that true tax relief makes up only 24 percent of the total package – not the 40 percent that President Obama had requested.
$825 billion is just the beginning – many Capitol Hill Democrats want to spend even more taxpayer dollars on their "stimulus" plan. In fact, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. David Obey (D-WI), told Roll Call earlier this month, "I would not be surprised to see us go further on some of these programs down the line."

Higher educated citizens will not 'stimulate' the economy. But the rest of it I agree with you on. I also like the fact that ALL Republicans voted no on this thing, plus 11 Dems. This thing could get real ugly.
-
Kinda makes ya understand why some have tagged it as the "Porkulous" package!
-
I like the idea of giving everyone $2,700. That would stimulate my package
-
Finally, a bipartisan vote! But you won't hear it called that on the news!I also like the fact that ALL Republicans voted no on this thing, plus 11 Dems. -
I find it funny how people can poke at this package but hey, let's give corporate America billions, then only get more people un-employed and these same jokers give themselves bonus's and hoard the cash. I thought this plan was a good idea when it first came to be, but I'm wondering what is going on with it right now. When I found out that about 8-19% was going to be used for infer structure instead of the 60 or so percent that was talked about before I was really mad.

back away from the machine gun pheebs....

lol..

I never thought of it like that but it is true.zoom6zoom:

I seem to believe it would also stimulate all of our local b&m's as well as the good 'ol boys at CCOM .....I'm just guessing

Im in ohio. hook it up.jlzimmerman:The plan provides enough spending – $825 billion – to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000. -
I dont wanna GIVE corporate america anything.phobicsquirrel:I find it funny how people can poke at this package but hey, let's give corporate America billions, then only get more people un-employed and these same jokers give themselves bonus's and hoard the cash.
I want corporate america to go out and get things for themselves.
I also want to get out of their way of getting those things.
on a related note, I dont want to take anything away from them either. Corporate america employs a good percentage of people. this helps those people survive. the more you take away from corporate america, the more you take away form americans. -

Kuzi hit this one right on the head! It's not giving Corporate America anything. It's taking away less from them. It's not like giving them a tax break is a hand out or something. It was their money to begin with. If you don't like Corporations then don't spend your money with them. Stop going to Wal Mart. The government taking less of their money isn't "giving" them anything.

How much undermining like this are we going to see across the nation?
In spite of the fact that part of the Federal stimulus package goes toward college tuition relief, the Florida State Senate approves a measure for colleges to increase their tuition by 15% -
When will these politicians learn to keep their stimulus packages to themselves? They always seem to get into trouble... ask Bill Clinton.
-
Also, Zimmerman, your point about college tuition is excellent. The rising costs of a college education are fueled by government subsidies in the same way that rising health costs are fueled by health insurance. Businesses dealing necessities (energy, education, healthcare) in this country charge based on what the consumer can afford, rather than what the product or service actually costs to deliver.

My final thought on this whole deal is that ALL of these moronic socialist politicians can come stimulate my package!

the japan thing wasnt a joke though. in the 90s japan passed 8 stimulus packages similar to the one we just passed. none of them worked. -

Fu*k their secrets. The Government is giving away OUR money and they want to keep their secrets?!?! I am so ready for a revolution. -
me too.jlzimmerman:I am so ready for a revolution.
my wife and i have been making plans as of late if the *** hits the fan. we know where we are going, how we are gunna eat, what needs to be with us at all times, and who we need to protect.
i hate that i have to think about "what if there are political riots in my neighborhood?"
i think things are going to come to a head faster than we can comprehend.
time to buy some ammo. -
Sounds like you guys might be preparing to break a federal law or two?kuzi16:

No, he hasn't made it illegal to buy ammo.... YET!
-
True that, but I wasn't talking ab out the purchasing of ammo. I was thinking more along the lines of a Waco-style standoff. Just take lots of gars.
-
Sounds like the forming of Kuzi Nation.....can I be Secretary of Defense Kuz.....hasto pay more than just chocolates though ......
-
no federal laws being broken here. I just want to protect myself and my wife in the home that we worked for. I recently found out that Akron is the fifth most likely city to have a riot in the US if Obama gets taken out. (cleveland being number 4) hope the secret service is even better than i think for his sake and my neighborhood's.
I may not like his policy, but i dont want to wish death on him. -
yikes... well hopefully no riots... or bad will will come. btw what policy would you like kuzi?kuzi16:no federal laws being broken here. how about...phobicsquirrel:yikes... well hopefully no riots... or bad will will come. btw what policy would you like kuzi?
no social health care, or social anything for that mater
less tobacco tax
living up to the no earmarks on bills (stimulus package has about 8000+)
cutting capitol gains taxes
not eliminating the welfare reform from the clinton era
no regulation of the airwaves via fairness doctrine or anything that will act in the same way but isnt "the fairness doctrine"
not making the hard working 90+% of people that arent in default on their mortgage (but could be if the slightest things go wrong) pay for the people that arent keeping up. (what ever happened to personal financial responsibility?)
not bailing out second mortgages
no carbon tax
no cap and trade
not nationalizing any bank or financial institution... or anything else for that matter
oh... you asked what policy would i like, not what i wouldnt like....
i am in favor or any policy that gives power to the people to run their lives, not the government. I want any policy that will put money in my pocket, not take it from me to give it to someone who isnt as productive as me. I want a policy that will let the US be a sovereign nation in and of itself and not letting outside forces (like the UN) rule us
I want a policy that promotes personal responsibility, not dependency on the government to survive. I want any policy that will keep government as small as it can be and lets the people run the country and the economy.
it is not the governments job to give us anything. it is only their job to give us the means to go out and get things for ourselves.
