I smoke my stoggies outside. I love sitting outside relaxing with a good cigar. I live in Canada however so that isn't going to work for the whole year. (this just came to me) so I guess I'll have to figure out where to smoke during the rainey winter here on Vancouver Island.
Where do you smoke? Does smoking outside change the taste of a cigar?

I live in NC, so I don't have much worry about the weather. Our house faces West, so the back of our house is shady and cool in the evenings, even on a hot day. I sit on the deck out back, sometimes with a book, sometimes with nothing, sometimes with a laptop, sometimes with my cat.

I'm an outside smoker. On my patio. I don't see how it could change the taste, but if it does, it could only be for the better, IMHO.
If I lived on Vancouver Island, I'd definitely find a way to be outside as much as possible. Beautiful place. -
Thanks for that Urbino. Vancouver Island is indeed a BEAUTIFUL place. My question was based on memories of when I used to smoke cigarettes. I found that smoking a cigerette outside gave it a different taste then smoking one inside, Also with colder air outside in some months it definately had an effect on the taste, so I wondered if the same could be true for cigars. Still tryin' to figure out what I will do during the rainey season. Wet stoggies don't taste good inside or out, and the damned things keep going out too!urbino:I'm an outside smoker. On my patio. I'm an outside smoker. I live in southern California, so the nights are almost always nice temperature wise, since we have no real weather here.

No real weather but good weather you mean. But I do appreciate you not rubbing our noses in it. I guess the closest I get to smoking indoors is when I am in my truck with the windows down.j0z3r:I'm an outside smoker. You got it. I like that actually, I use the term "no weather" since we don't get snow (except for the mountains), hurricanes, tornadoes or the like, so good weather is probably a more fitting description.laker1963:

Just mudslides and earthquakes and wildfires. It's not the sky you guys have to worry about; it's the ground.j0z3r:

Side note here urby, give your mailbox a check when you can, a secret source tells me something may be there for you. -
Hmmmmm . . . I don't know this secret source, but I like the way it thinks. I'll definitely check the box. Thanks!

Due to my Girlfriend and her *ahem* Ruling the roost I smoke outside on the front patio, but I found out the Bar that is 30ft. from my front door allows cigars and all I had to do was bring the owner one and now I can smoke there whenever I want!

You live 30 feet from a bar !! Are you living in a van in the parking lot ??Lasabar:Due to my Girlfriend and her *ahem* Ruling the roost I smoke outside on the front patio, but I found out the Bar that is 30ft. from my front door allows cigars and all I had to do was bring the owner one and now I can smoke there whenever I want! -
Hey Lasabar, can you say you notice any difference in the taste or your stoggies inside or out?Lasabar:Due to my Girlfriend and her *ahem* Ruling the roost I smoke outside on the front patio, but I found out the Bar that is 30ft. from my front door allows cigars and all I had to do was bring the owner one and now I can smoke there whenever I want! -

No taste difference in all reality but the taste can be affected with the BURN of the cigar. Inside the cigars burn very evenly and slowly which makes the cigar cooler, and right now in the hot summer the inside air conditioning also is a drier air which will help with the burn.
If your cigar burns too quick or uneven the taste CAN be affected, most cigars will be affected because most of the flavor that you taste comes from the wrapper so if your cigar burns funny then the flavor will change, not in actual taste but in intensity and balance etc.
Tunneling: When the cherry burns the inside filler but the wrapper is burning too slowly
Canoeing: When one side of the cigar is burning faster than the other
Relights and being conscious of the wind will help, but the flavors won't change just the MIX of the flavors will

That makes perfect sense Lasabar. Thanks.

haha, you forgot the fabled winter 18 years ago when we got snow. That's more of a mythical fourth season though.Smoke=Fire:

I think I would prefer smoking outside to inside, though I've never smoked indoors. Something about just being outside, watching the stars with a good cigar is incredibly relaxing to me. -
Which happened right after the unicorn sighting at the Hotel del Coronado. :Pj0z3r:

During the fall, spring and summer I smoke on my patio out back...During the winter, either out back with a jacket on or in the garage w/ the door open....
-
Inside and out. I enjoy it more outside I think.
I think there are less distractions for me outside and I pay more attention to the taste and I can relax more.
My wife smokes cigarrettes.
Even though she doesn't like the smell of my cigars, she can't complain - too much.
-
I almost always smoke on my front porch. I love to sit out there during thunderstorms since the porch faces towards the lake (5 miles away), so I get to see some awesome lightning off in the distance.
I occasionally smoke in the lounge at B&Ms and I think that the cigar itself is usually better indoors, definitely easier to keep it burning properly (especially in the humidity), but the whole experience of smoking outdoors is usually better. -
I dont think Ive ever smoked inside a closed space. I would imagine it would have an effect on the perceived taste of a cigar, inside vs outside. indoors you are more likely to be breathing second hand smoke. the smoke in the air outside your mouth is highly diffused when compared to the smoke in your mouth, you would be smelling diffused smoke while puffing on the cigar. since taste is what, 70% smell? somthing like that anyway. I imagine the indoor smoking experience would be different. as for cold weather, I have noticed that smoking a cigar in bitter cold creates a smoking experience with almost no flavor. It could be attributed to the 70% smell factor, when its cold I dont smell things to well, stuffy nose/heavy moisture in the air/just being plain uncomfortable.

Hi all, I'm rather new but I thought I would toss in my two cents. I normally smoke outside on the patio, but sometimes the weather prohibits that comfortably. So once in a while, I'll light up in the garage. Just crack the door, pull up a chair and enjoy a smoke and a good beverage. I have smoked in a couple of indoor lounges however. One of my favorite being Casa Fuente in Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas. Pull up a chair, light up, have a nice drink and watch all the people wandering in the casino. Personally, I've never really noticed a big difference between indoors and outdoors... but I think I'll have to try and conduct some kind of "scientific" experiment... or just use it as an excuse to enjoy a couple more smokes. :-)

when the weather is good i go for a walk because i live close to a very nice creek when the weather is bad i go to next door where the garage is always open and whip open my lawn chair and smoke with a nice pepsi and watch the grass grow
and mpaton - just curious what you have done the past two days with the rain? im guessing your in the metro area...

When I smoke at home (most of the time), I do it outdoors on the back deck. We live in a very forested neighborhood and it is relaxing for all the reasons others have already covered. The rest of the time, I smoke in the lounge at the local B&M. Only problem is that their selection isn't very consistent with my tastes and they don't like it when I bring ccom cigars in for some reason.
Regarding the difference between indoor and outdoor, I don't think I've noticed much of a flavor difference. I do have trouble with keeping the burn even outdoors when the wind picks up. The main problem I have indoors is that the lounge is always full of several people smoking different stuff all at once, so the mingling can be frustrating. When my friend and I go to the store together, we tend to take turns picking something to both have for exactly this reason. -
I too smoke outside as well... Once my son goes down for bed (usually around 8pm) I'll head outside for a bit and lounge in the hammock... Light a couple of the tiki torches and lean back and relax... When time and weather permit of course...
-
I have always smoked outside as well. I love the smell of a good cigar, I just don't like to smell it in the house. I think if you smell it all the time like that, it takes something away from when you pull another out of the humi. Besides that, the wife would never allow it. LOL I may start sitting down at the local B&M and try one there, just to see if there is any difference.

Actually Scion, I was in Sunriver and then eastern OR for about a week and a half, so I missed most of the rainy weather. :-) But now that fall is on it's way, I'm sure I will be spending a lot more time in the garage with my smokes.

I like smoking outside but when it's rainy or really cold I smoke inside but I try not too. Though the weather around here is sketchy..
