New humi. Heartfelt beads set up help.

Just bought a humi online, and want to order a heartfelt tube as i hear these are the best and easiest way to go. The humi is approx. 997.5 cubic inches and I was thinking of buying the 2 ounce 65% heartfelt tube which is rated for up to 1080 cubic inches. Will this be sufficient or do you recommend another heartfelt set up? I really only want to have to use one humidification device. I don't have the humi in hand yet but want to place the heartfelt order ASAP so that everything is ready to go once seasoned.

Any input and advice appreciated.

To me that set up sounds like it would work great. You'll never have to worry about humification again.

I'd recommend you buy more than that. Keep in mind those figures are probably best case scenario and don't take into account any sort of air exchange, poor seals, or differences in ambient humidity. If you've got roughly 1000 cu.inches, I'd recommend you go with enough beads to cover 1500-2000. That will cover not only the things I mentioned, but will also help the humidity recover faster when you open it.

Pretty sure I have that same humidor. I use a couple 1 oz tubes in the corners and a 4 oz tube up on the top shelf. What can I say...I'm a bit of an overkill specialist. That being said, the humidity in the box is rarely below 62 and never above 68.

I have a humi roughly that size. I took out the green foam from the stock humidifier and filled it with beads. I poked holes in a couple empty tubos and filled them with beads for the bottom part of the humi. The beads are cheaper when you by them by the pound.

Ya know, I may be waaayy out in left field but, when you mention saturating the beads my interest perks right up. You may have read where I've said this before on this forum (a number of times), but I have great success with the Heartfelt beads by not saturating them at all!! If I read the technical stuff on Heartfelt's website correctly, one doesn't have to wet the beads at all.

I put distilled water in my humidifier and leave the beads dry. My interpretation of what Heartfelt says about their beads is that they're designed to suck excess moisture out of the air or release moisture back into the air when necessary. I just don't understand what all the fuss is about.

I have the 65% beads and my RH is almost always between 62% and 68%, just where I prefer my sticks to be for smoking. (Actually, I prefer them to be closer to 62%).

It seems to me that, since Heartfelt designs beads that are used in museums to protect valuable works of art, I can't see a bunch of museum guards running around saturating the beads so they'll work properly.

Like I said, maybe I'm way out in left field.............

Were it not a desktop humi putting water and dry beads may be a good solution. I'd be worried about spilling water with a smaller sized humi.

Can someone or a few people chime in with regards to the amount of tubes. Should I get one 4oz tube or two 2oz tubes? Obviously it is cheaper to get one 4oz.

As far as price is concerned, you could buy 1/2 pound of the loose beads for less than the cost of a 4 ounce tube. That would allow you to distribute the beads throughout your humidor as has been suggested. You could easily use some small mesh bags to contain them.

Yeah, I have a half-pound in my coolidor and I get the same satisfactory results by leaving them dry and I place a small custard bowl with about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of distilled water in it nearby. Works perfectly.....

by you putting the water in your humidifier you are essentially saturating the beads. I don't have my humidifier any more and just have the beads. They can only provide humidity when they have water to give off. They are taking from your sponge and releasing as neccesary. Without your sponge I suspect your humidity would drop over time (unless ambient humidity is above 65%) and you would have to saturate your beads. That being said when i got my beads it was due to high humidity (75ish) and I didn't saturate my beads for about a month they quickly took the humidity down in my humi and just survived on the water they took in for a while. The instructions that come with the beads specifically say to saturate about half of them to start them with enough reserves to let out more humidity if needed.

I go to Wally-World and take a few of the mesh stockings that they give out when trying on shoes. Free and work great!

Is your humi being shipped from the states to canada via UPS??
If so UPS is going to RAPE you with import duties....
