Project aging cigar: COHIBA Behilke 52, 54 and 56

I have taken a new project to age certain cigars. We all know that to enjoy a cigar's optimum taste, aging is a great way to go. Today, I have decided to start with Cohiba Behike 52 and 54. The goal is smoke once a month the same cigar from the same box and take notes of the changing flavor, aroma and strength of a cigar

Cohiba Behike 52, number one cigar of 2010. I do not always go with Cigar Afiocinado or other rating organizations top chart but Cohiba Behike is truly one of the top cigar in the world. I will add/edit more information later about the Behike at this section because I left some information in my office

Remember my post "He-Man: The Master of the Cuban cigar"? He is the one who just dropped 4 boxes of Cohiba BHK 52 and one box of BHK 54 this evening. I am still waiting for a box of BHK 56.

I am adding this to my cigar aging project. 2006 was the 30th anniversary of the Don Carlos cigar created by the Fuenete family, Carlos Fuenete, sr. In a tribute to his father, carlito Fuenete has created the Don Carlos 30th Anniversary cigars, Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario. Prmometheus produced these Don Carlos humidors with 30 cigars.

I got that same one empty. Bought the black one full though with the matching travel humidor.

Crap man, the humi with cigars on the DC 30th! I bought a box of them (10). I hope they age well, but they are a bit mild but you know, time will tell.
I'm looking to smoke some opus's when it gets a little nicer out that have 7 plus years on them. I hope it was worth it! My goal is to keep them around for around 15 years and see how they smoke. Maybe longer, I have a lot of opus's and I hate smoking them. Sort of feels strange, like they are family or something. I keep telling my wife, I have cigars that have been with me longer than you have! She doesn't like that very much.

Last time I smoked this cigar in June/12. Though I know I should wait a year but I couldn't stop myself to light up one within 9 months of aging. I am surprised to see how much it mellow out within 9 months. The mild harshness is completely gone. The cigar is more complex with strong raising-prune, cocoa, sweet bitter chocolate flavors with cinnamon-nutmeg aroma at the back. The black-green peppery spiciness through the nose is very subtle this time with a hint of mild floral touch. This is cigar developed a lot and it will be better in the future. The smoke is more creamy and round. There is also the strong Turkish coffee flavor with added nutty finish. I couldn't feel so much oily leathery note this time. This is nothing like a regular Opus X but simply better. Can't wait to see how it develops in the future.

These cigars were released on December 2011 in commemoration of Arturo Fuente's 100th Anniversary. There is very little information about the cigar. However, I also heard that this not the only 100th anniversary cigars from Fuente, they are going to release couple other throughout the year of 2012. The cigar has two bands. First as usal Opus X Forbidden band and the second band is very different - number 13 inside a clock. There are many speculation about number 13. ForbiddenX 13 series is grown on a specific 13 acre plot, Carlos Fuente Sr. was born on 13th St, He died at the age of 85. 8+5=13, Arturo Fuente's headquarter at 1310 N. 22nd St. bla bla bla. Arturo Fuente is very creative about setting up attractive stories about some of the cigars. I just hope this is better than a regular Opus X as 100th anniversary cigar. The wrapper is Dominican Rosado- very dark red, much darker than regular Opus X wrapper. The box comes with 13 cigars and I am going to smoke one soon and rest of them are for my aging project.

I am in touch with Fuente to gather more information. I will update more information as soon as I receive something new from them. There was very little knowledge about this cigar when they came to the market and they disappeared within a week. One of my friend just brought this box from Dominican Republic who is friends with Fuente family. He also mentioned to me that these cigars are not one time release, they will release more this year. This box is ForbiddenX 13 Heart of the Bull 1957 (5 1/4 x 50)br>

No joke... hehe. This thread made me start tracking down some bhk 52's. The pictures look so pretty!! I'm still waiting on them : / and it's march which I have heard is a bad time to find them.

I believe you can find Behike any time of year. The problem is the price. Sometime it fluctuate but the price at the Casa del Habano stores are always the same.

I have many humidors but the Fuente 100 Anniversary Humidor controls the humidity and temperature perfectly. I put some of my favorite Fuentes and La Palina Goldies in this humidor. Today I am adding this to my cigar aging project. I am going to rest them for one year at least.

These are some of my favorite non-Cuban cigars. They have great aging potential. Today, I am adding a box of Opus X Lost City 2012 and Room 101 Daruma Sucio in my on-going Aging Project:

I appreciate your kind comments Jim. Yes, I have more stash and trying to organize them last couple years. The problem is I am addicted with buying cigars. I am proud of my decent collection, thanks again!

There cigars are so smooth that I don't even know if they really need further aging. These are not regular Partagas blends they are specially blended with 5-7 years aged tobacco. Most of them are rolled by famous Cuban rollers China and Hamlet Paredes. I am adding them to my aging project to see how they change in flavors and in complexity with further aging. I put them in my Partagas humidor. I collected the humidors and the cigars during my last trip to Cuba. I believe, I smoke them pretty quickly.

Lately I stop buying cigars rather than investing on good quality humidors to age my current collection. To be honest, I am tired of buying cigars and worried how to age them properly as always my upcoming move to another foreign country. As part of my humidor search- I absolutely fell in love with Prometheus humidors. These humidors are more than perfect. Today I am including some Pepin 10th Anniversary, 2001 Cuban H. Upman, 2005 Robina Unicos, 2010 Partagas No. 2 and few other CCs to my aging project.

What an absolutely amazing collection of cigars, sir! I can only hope someday to put together a fraction of the quality and volume of fine sticks you have assembled. Reading your posts here has been very instructive. Thank you for sharing your knowledge as well as the incredible pics of your collection.

I appreciate your kind words Doug. It is a lot of work and I am getting tired taking care of them. No more cigars for me unless they are very unique. It takes some time but eventually you will get there. There is no end of this hobby.

I believe Don Pepin Garcia's 10th Anniversary and Joya de Nicaragua's Cuarto Cinco are Top Ten all time Nicaraguan cigars. Though both of them are not 100% Nicaraguan Puro but they were rolled in Nicaragua. I am not JDN fan but Cuarto Cinco is one of my all time favorite cigars. These are phenomenal smoke and do not appear often. A great way to enjoy a phenomenal cigar is stock them while they are available. I am adding them both to my aging cigar project in a perfect humidor so I can enjoy them for a long period of time.

Very cool man. I am starting a project to review super premiums this year and then ranking them. Both these will be on that list.

Good Lord, what an excellent thread. Makes me want to try....who am I kidding. I have no willpower. I might be able to make a box last several months or a couple years, but I would definitely want to try one as soon as possible.

Rzaman I gotta tell ya. Seeing all those incredible sticks is like freaking Christmas morning. I've been smoking cigars off and on for 12 years but last year is when I poured it on, bought a Diamond Crown humidor and started studying cigars. Even though my collection is very small it's grown to be a passion or fascination of their background, flavors, and complexity. Great post.

Arturo Fuente Don Arturo Aniversario Al Siglo cigars do not need further aging but I know it will get even better if I can wait few more years. The La Palina Languito Especial definitely needs some age.
